I wont mention it in other, more highly charged circles (unless someone else throws down the gauntlet first), but did Return of the King really deserve every last Oscar it could possibly get? There were some fantastically well made movies by stunningly talented people this past year, but if Oscar is to be believed history may well forget it. Not to pick on the flaws of the franchise (and, lets be clear- these awards were all won for the franchise more than "King" itself), but it would be nice to see the Hollywood love spread around a bit- if for no other reason than to hear more variety in the thankings, and see more faces in general. I'll be curious to see how many of the award winners (in the more technical fields especially) go on to more Oscar-worthy projects, and if they will continue to hunt those Oscars in a WETA based pack. It'd be great to see that talent disperse and seed throughout the movies instead, perhaps that's the best thing (to my mind) that could come of what otherwise seemed the least diverse Oscars I've yet seen.
